Not long ago, hotels in Vientiane could almost be counted on one hand. Today, the Vientiane Hotel Association will soon count 100 members and the number is steadily increasing.

The vast majority of the hotels are small to medium-sized and mainly family owned. From the big world-wide operating hotel-chains only very few are represented, but recently some bigger hotels – mostly under foreign management - have opened up. All this does, however, not mean that the average quality of Vientiane’s hotels is poor compared to international standards, as the natural friendliness and heartfelt welcome of the Lao people make up for an eventual lack in professional hospitality business experience.

Regarding the prices, they start at about 15 US$, will be roughly around 40 US$ for what would be equal to a “three-star” hotel and can go up to 450 US$ for luxury suites in the few high class hotels.
